  • Choosing Gameplay Over Final Art—for Now

I spent a lot of time figuring out how to create my character models and animations.

Actually, it was hard for me, as a programmer, to model a character, rig it, and create multiple animations in Blender—especially since I need to create multiple characters, such as the player, enemies, and others.

AI hasn’t been very helpful for character creation. It may be a good time to create some assets with AI, but I still haven’t found a good AI tool for modeling and animating characters.

So, for now, free assets are the best choice. 🙂

I should focus on the gameplay first. Later, I will have to think about replacing the art assets.

But now, other problems have started to appear.

I can place many parts of the level in Blender, using it as a level editor, and export them to a JSON level file. However, when it comes to the terrain, it is hard to decide what I should do. I decided to solve the terrain and graphics problems together.

For now, I should focus on gameplay, mechanics, and technical stuff.

  • Hello world OccuLand !

I’ll just start my new project.

It’s been a long time since I wanted to start this project, because it’s hard for me to choose what exactly should be made.

Because any scenario requires different things.

Some scenarios are good but hard to develop and maintain by an indie game developer.

Some scenarios are good for an indie game, but need to be compatible with my goal to make a game with my own engine.

Honestly, at first I thought AI could help me with the art. But now I think if I create my own 3D models, I will have more control over the theme.

AI-generated 3D models are good-looking, but not in detail, and they are not optimized for video games in most cases.

    I think I can publish pre-alpha versions [or pre-pre-alpha? :-)] soon.
